North East Builders Thread

Postby el barco » Mon Sep 26, 2005 9:24 am

I am starting this thread as a place to share regional boat building news, events, and plan meet ups in the Northeast, or New England. Maybe it can become a sticky.

Your wish is my command! I have removed my example thread as it is no longer needed.

I have in fact spent some time by the water in your area when I was there twice on business. Been on the coast from Maine down to Newport as well as Cape Cod. Never been out on the water though.

My dream as a young sailor was to arrive in Newport after completing the single handed trans Atlantic race (OSTAR at that time).

Duxbury Boat Festival

This past Saturday (9/24/05) I went to check out the Duxbury boat festival. It was a beautiful day, and I snapped a few pix while there. I posted them in a gallery here: http://www.pbase.com/alball/duxbury_boat_festival_05

It was a small show, with a handhul of old boats. I should have taken more pix, but I had my hands full with Klaus, my big dog. There were some really nice strip kayaks and canoes shown, and a handful of builders.

I particularly liked the little tug:

You didn't bring your boat? That liner is histerical. Is it an RC model?

I did not bring my boat....I should have. I was a little unclear about the nature of the festival and I did not know if there would be a good place to park and launch. In retrospect it would have been great having "el barco" there to put around the harbor.

I really want to go back and explore the bay .

the liner was pretty funny. It was not rc, the guy actually sat in it with his head sticking up between the stacks. It was cool.

How do we know that the "el barco" posting here is really Al? El barco sure sounds like a good user name for a dog. Klaus is that you again?

*woof*

klaus here....hey Dan, Al wants to know if you will take him fishing sometime. Marc sent him a picture of a big striper and he is jealous. He even says he will fill your gas tanks if you take him out!

Maybe Al was referring to this little keeper size striper....

Absolutely Al! Lets find a time.

I wonder if we could get a team together and show these teens what's what!

After Christmas, I usually have enough raw materials to build an OD16.

This sounds great Dave. I wish there were pictures of the boats!

Can you coat the cardboard with epoxy?
