A tighter target?

Postby NorthWoods » Sun Sep 25, 2005 11:07 am

Hi Kiwi,

In another discussion, it was suggested that you might want to create regional categories for those in different geographical areas to discuss topics that are specific to them. For instance, there are quite a few New Englanders on the board who might want to talk about where the cod or stripers are and those from the gulf coast who want to talk more about flats fishing. It would help make scanning and participating more efficient.

Please consider it.

Maybe. It's incovenient when a forum has too many top-level choices, and there are a lot of geographical areas. Maybe just one forum called "Home Waters" or "Cruising and Fishing Areas" or something like that.

yea I'll second that. If you get a lot from one area, then you can split up into their own group.

I'd let it develop a little first.

How about just using On the water::Sea stories (using an amateur built boat). This is what it is there for.

Hey I'm even going to create an area for you guys just to show how it is done.

A tighter target?

[color=darkblue:fa0c17b5fc]Being new to the forum, I'm going to add my 2-cents.

As an amateur designer and builder, I appreciate craft of all types, regardless of where used. Whether it's fresh or salt water, ocean or pond, they each have their own points of interest. I can usually pick something from each build that I may be able to use in one of my own designs.

As for personal interests, I'm going to be looking for the smaller craft builds - canoes, prams, skiffs, pontoons, catamarans, etc. that are mainly used on ponds, small lakes, rivers and other protected waters. Where I live, many areas are going to "no wake" restrictions, and restricting motor size as well. Many lakes are banning the use of PWC's, as they tend to degrade the water quality (you know, all the stirring of the sand/silt, and the exhaust with a gas/oil mixture).

I'm, also, very interested in alternative propulsion, especially electric. In the years to come, we're going to see some great strides in the improvement of motors and batteries. For now, the choices available in trolling motors alone will suit me just fine. For my small craft, trolling motors are great - light weight, inexpensive to purchase (30# thrust new motor for less than $100);
INSERT INTO phpbb_posts (old_post_id, topic_id, forum_id, poster_id, post_time, poster_ip, post_username, post_subject, post_text, enable_bbcode, enable_smilies, enable_sig) VALUES inexpensive renewable energy and they don't pollute!

Anyway, it's great to have a forum such as this. I've been involved in other boat building and design groups, but this one is the best yet. Thanks for getting it going again Tony![/color:fa0c17b5fc] :D
