In replacing mat with biax should it be replaced oz per oz , and should a layer of kevlar be added to the hull to compensate for loss of thickness. thanks rick

Bi-ax will be stronger so you should be able to use lighter weight. The exact amount of strength gained needs to be calculated by an engineer.

A couple of links:

You can cover the biax with woven cloth to make fairing easier and add thickness. Kevlar will provide puncture resistance.

Thanks Tony . designer has said I can replace mat with anything else , but he did,nt elaborate. He calls for gelcoat or 6oz glass for a finish , I,ll be using a 5.7 oz S-2 for finish glass. I will be building a Horstman tristar 31, and will post build here if its ok. I post and ask questions on bateau, but here is more appropriate for a non bateau design with limited bateau materials. I have found some H80 3/4 grid scored with scrim at a cheep price from the supplier I got my H80 5/8 plain for my hulls. I have nt started on the build yet , just stocking up on my materials, should I use 3/4 grid scored on my hulls in place of the 5/8, and use the 5/8 on the deck? At this point I need 30 more gallons silver tip epoxy and maybe 40 yards of biax and I will have all my material for the build. Thanks for any advice rick
