Small is beautiful! Small boat, low cost, huge fun.
Editors viewpoint
30th June, 2010
A new series of articles and plan presentations are on the way. Small boats are easier to build - you need less space and there isn't as much boat to sand, fair, paint. They are cheaper - fewer materials, smaller engine, lower fuel consumption, docking fees... And a well known fact is that because smaller craft are easier to get on the water they are used more often - the "have more fun" factor! Smaller boats from as far apart as Japan, Italy and the USA have inspired the title of this editorial, we are starting with bateau.com's 12' runabout UPDATED: a couple of images of the RB16. We will discover some boats from the ten footer class in Italy and a boat that corresponds to the under two horsepower rules in Japan. Add to that Doi Atsushi's building of a new sculling oar prao and we have some interesting reading to come in the next weeks.
News from the plans front: Bateau.com has a couple of versions of a Mc Innis Bateau style row boat. The round chine version is in foam core or strip planking and the multichine version is in the usual ply core composite.
WoodenWidget has launched the the Stasha, a skin-on-frame nesting dinghy. And Benjy writes to say that a French version of the site is under way starting with the Origami page. Benjy nous écrit pour annoncer la version française de la page sur l'Origami. Bien sûr les plans sont aussi en français maintenant.
Newcomers - please note that registration on the forum and on the gallery is easy but that you must register on both. This is to prevent you know who from filling the forum with you know what (four letter word starting with "S"...).

Trying to register on the Gallery? The gallery and the forum require separate registration. I don't like this either, but it is much easier than cleaning up the mess left by spammers. If you want to post photos register and then send me an e-mail with your user login (not your password) so that I can activate your account.
