Gone Walkabout
Editors viewpoint
31st August 2010
Going walkabout is an Australian aboriginal expression which I found quite appropriate. I have been all burnt out by work life and whatever over the last months. So I decided to go for a walk. A 470 Km walk along the Way of Saint James. No, not a pilgrimage, whatever that is. More like a sporting event because I am trying for 42 Km a day... The pilgrim's path passes below the window which is beside me as I write these lines. I have a dear friend in Burgos. So I put the two together and added a little challenge to spice things up. This small adventure will probably give birth to some writings - you will be informed.
When I get back I will be presenting some boats from the ten footer class in Italy and a boat that corresponds to the under two horsepower rules in Japan. Add to that Doi Atsushi's building of a new sculling oar prao and we have some interesting reading to come.
News from the plans front: Bateau.com has a couple of versions of a Mc Innis Bateau style row boat. The round chine version is in foam core or strip planking and the multichine version is in the usual ply core composite.
WoodenWidget has launched the the Stasha, a skin-on-frame nesting dinghy. And Benjy writes to say that a French version of the site is under way starting with the Origami page. Benjy nous écrit pour annoncer la version française de la page sur l'Origami. Bien sûr les plans sont aussi en français maintenant.
Newcomers - please note that registration on the forum and on the gallery is easy but that you must register on both. This is to prevent you know who from filling the forum with you know what (four letter word starting with "S"...).

Trying to register on the Gallery? The gallery and the forum require separate registration. I don't like this either, but it is much easier than cleaning up the mess left by spammers. If you want to post photos register and then send me an e-mail with your user login (not your password) so that I can activate your account.
